Overcoming logistics and emission challenges whilst converting cement power plants from gas to coal

In 2014, the Egyptian Cabinet made the decision to allow cement manufacturers to start using coal for power production following continuous energy shortages and production losses. Whilst other manufacturing sectors also felt the pinch, cement companies were allowed to start using coal for power production as they have the required funds to buy expensive machinery and equipment to convert their plants and also invest in the latest technologies to control carbon and dust emissions.

Although the topic of coal being used for power production in Egypt is a hotly contested political debate, join us at the Coal Power Egypt conference which will focus on the technical and logistical issues including:

  • Safely transporting coal from the port to the plant
  • Reducing both carbon and dust emissions from coal power production
  • Achieving compliance with strict environmental assessment plans
  • Converting power plants from gas to coal: equipment and machinery challenges
